A device programmer, also called "chip programmer" or "circuit programmer", is a tool for transferring data into programmable integrated circuits, such as ROMs, EPROMs, EEPROMs, Flash Memory, GALs, PALs, PLDs, CPLDs, FPGAs, and microcontrollers. This forum is for discussions about features and issues of universal device programmers, such as the GALEP-5 and GALEP-5D programmers from Conitec.

Using GALEP-5 for software development
      #500 - 04/28/08 04:17 PM

With GALEP-5 or GALEP-5D you can now debug all Microcontrollers with JTAG interface that are supported by the OpenOCD (On Chip Debugger) software - ARM7, ARM9, XScale, and Cortex-M3 MCUs. Simply put the chip to debug into GALEP's programming socket, or connect it with GALEP through a cable or ISP adapter (please find details in the OpenOCD documentation). Additionally you can easily define test algorithms for in circuit testing of complete circuit boards (Boundary Scan) for small series production. This way your chip programmer becomes a complete development, test and production system.

Please find details here: OpenOCD documentation.

The OpenOCD software with GALEP-5 support can be freely downloaded from the Conitec Download page.

If I follow the installation instructions I run into a small problem.

After I power cycle the g5d the installation is gone. Further quick tests showed that anything I create under /home is gone after an power cycle.

Is this function as designed or is some essential step needed to make this installation permanent?

After switching on GALEP, you need to transfer the software via FTP. As to my knowledge the content of GALEP's RAM is not preserved, so you always need to transfer the software before you can start it.

Ok, so until support for the SD-card is implemented there is no way for me to permanently store anything into the g5d (i.e. some internal flash disk)?

That's correct. The internal RAM of GALEP-5 is volatile. What you transfer by FTP ends up in the RAM and is lost when you switch GALEP off.
