A device programmer, also called "chip programmer" or "circuit programmer", is a tool for transferring data into programmable integrated circuits, such as ROMs, EPROMs, EEPROMs, Flash Memory, GALs, PALs, PLDs, CPLDs, FPGAs, and microcontrollers. This forum is for discussions about features and issues of universal device programmers, such as the GALEP-5 and GALEP-5D programmers from Conitec.

Error programming SST39VF040
      #587 - 09/11/08 01:18 PM

Hi to all,

Is there someone who has experience with Galep 4 prog.?
I have eprom SST39VF040 in PLCC32 packaging and i can't programm it (write in it),
I do not have the original Galep adapter, but I made adapter DIL32 to PLCC32 with pin 1:1.

When i start programming the error is:

######################################
Starting ...
The program in progress ...
Error!
Invalid device!
Expected: BFD7, Device: C641
Continue?
######################################

I tried programming and W39V040FAP, but the issue is the same.
I can read it, but i can not write to it!
Is there someone that can help?

ps.: sorry for bad English

This looks like a wrong device ID. I'll forward this problem to the developers, and will post here when I get some information.

Ok, I've learned that the most common reason for such a problem is a defect or self-made adapter. If the read ID command sequence is crippled due to a too-large capacity, inductance or resistance on a pin, the addresses 0 and 1 are read instead, which is the likely cause for reading C641.

Make sure that all pins of your adapter are well connected with wires as short as possible. Of course, the best solution is purchasing a PLCC adapter from Conitec.
