Hello everyone!

In the last week or two, i scrapped up an hour here and there to come up with an entry for the 100 line contest.. I hope you'll enjoy:

Lines (3.3mb)

The idea was to squeeze as much fun as you can from the gameplay of a game, even with the simplest graphics available. The 10k limit on the code made the whole minimalist concept all the more evident. To win the game, you have to drive your line around (kiiinda like snake) without crashing anywhere. It's a 2-4 player game with AI included.

In the zip there's the executable along with the source files for anyone that wants to have a peek. I maintained two versions of the script, one with comments, defines and clear code, and a more cryptic one that stays with 100 semicolons and 10,240 bytes. To compile the source files you'll need A7.08.2b or later cause I'm using draw_quad() in it..

Let me know if you like it,
Aris

img tags not working, change .zip extension to .jpg

edit: from the screenshot and description it seems to play like Tron. Quite fun.

I checked Tron out and got slightly dissapointed that a game like that already exists.. I was thinking of maaybe making it 3d at some point, adding weapons, multiplayer and stuff like that.. but oh well..

truth is, i didn't came up with the idea either. I saw a similar game back in Amiga. What I liked the most about it is how simple it was, and yet me and my friends used to play it for hours straight..

Thnx. And I hope you didn't really gave up.. there's plenty of room for ideas to go round..

I'm sorry, the colored lines use shader 4 technology, so you'll need at least directx 10a to play this.. and 2gig of ram would be nice...

But seriously..:P try installing the Ogg drivers (460kb). That solved the problem to other people that couldn't run it...

that did the trick. mine must've been old.

fun game, but couldn't hold my interest for long. your code was fun to look at though, with all those anti-semi-colon shortcuts.

does it really need shader 4? if so why? but you might want to show requirments of vista, because even though most modern cards support it you still need vista for dx 10.... of course if mercuryus is right then ya got me :P
